Return

Wow, so I haven’t blogged anything since back in November. It’s amazing how quickly time flies! I’ve been wrapping up as many projects as possible since Baby is coming in less than two months… we’ve just about finished painting the basement and the living room; carpet will be installed downstairs shortly. We’ve cleaned up some old furniture and got rid of a piano! I’ve got a few things to be blogging about, but they’ll come in a bit. Stay tuned :)

Another Day at the Office

Boy would I like to go for a ride with these guys

Excuses

“Christians today are far more interested in spitting out excuses for why they can’t do what they ought than they are in just doing it.”

Tragedy Strikes Again

Well, just two years after Dad passed away from cancer, tragedy strikes again. Mom, who was wrapping up her vacation in Maine, slipped off some wet rocks into the ocean. Stefanie tried in vain to reach her. A coast guard vessel picked her up, but it was too late to revive her. This newspaper article summarizes everything.

Mom had always dreamed of a vacation in Maine. She had two great weeks out there right on the ocean. This sure makes for a poopy weekend, though. Arrangements and details will follow…

Vacation

Well, I’m back from vacation! I had a terrific time in Maine and New Hampshire. I’ll soon have some pictures up detailing some of the more interesting things that happened… Stay tuned.

Snowmen

I’ve always been a big fan of Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin’s always had an interesting way with snowmen. Someone went to the trouble of collecting a whole bunch of the strips: http://www.drurywriting.com/david/05-SnowmanArt.htm.

Brakes

The last time I tried changing my brakes (pads and rotors), it was on my 1991 Toyota Corolla. Needless to say, everything was rusted together into a huge blob of metal. It took me an entire weekend and the help of a friend from church who knew a lot more about cars than me.

So, as you can expect, I was a bit apprehensive this weekend when I spent $180 on new rotors and pads for my 2003 Ford Taurus. I had no idea how easy or difficult the endeavor would prove to be. Turns out when you don’t have rust, things come off and go back together much more easily!

I had my front brakes completely replaced in about an hour and a half. With an air-wrench and a decent floor lift, I probably could cut that down to 40 minutes. I’ve gotta work more often with rust-less brake systems!

Daylight Savings Time

The government sure does know how to cause trouble. I’m finally finished updating everything on my desk to be compliant with 2007’s DST update.

* My phone, which gets its time from a Linux PBX. The Linux server needed to be updated, then my phone rebooted.
* My computer, which required a patch from Microsoft.
* My Outlook, which connects to an Exchange server. The exchange server machine needed to be patched, then the exchange server itself needed to be patched. Reboots all around.
* My cell phone, which was kindly updated by Verizon.
* My PDA, which required me to download an update, install it on my desktop, copy a CAB file to my PDA, install the CAB file on my PDA, reboot my PDA, then resync all my (already hosed) appointments.
* My watch, which simply needed to be rotated forward one hour.

New Life

I love spring. I love seeing dead things come back to life. I love feeling warm air that once was cold. I love the sun being up when I leave the house and still being up when I return home. I love spring.

I also love the gospel. I love seeing dead things come to life. I love feeling warmth from hearts that were once cold. I love the Light being up when I wake up every morning and still being up when I lie down to sleep. I love the gospel.

The Kingdom has come. And every year at this time, all of Creation joins to sing about the story that isn’t over yet. Redemption is in the works, and the whole earth knows it. Tragic that those who bear God’s image are the only creatures that don’t see the obvious. How blessed we are, though, that God is willing to forgive us for messing it all up, and is even willing to let us participate in what’s coming!

I love spring.

Of Teeth and Meds

Well, Friday has come and gone.  Airsoft was on the agenda, but plans were gently replaced with the great and wondrous… Removal of Wisdom Teeth!  Turns out, because of my last name, I still have wisdom.  That’s always good.  I have a lot of pain, now, too.  And drugs.  The drugs are supposed to stop the pain, but I don’t have much faith in the “good stuff”.  I wind up not being able to see straight and my jaw still hurts.  So the worst of both worlds.  And I’m supposed to be getting work done, but I can’t remember one minute to the next what I’m working on.

And now I can’t even remember what I was going to write here.  Maybe I’m already done.  Upcoming bloggable events: Sermons posted on the church website, new Connections logo for the church, more cool info from the book of Acts.  The world’s big — there’s a lot to blog about.

Back to my Vicodin!
